Testerone Supplements - How effective are they?

Many men are not satisfied with their testerone levels. There are a number of supplements that are available to purchase. One should be cautious however as many are not been verified by a extensive scientific study conducted by a reputable group. Not only may these products be ineffective but they could also be dangerous to one's health.

To start off a good note, some testerone supplements have been determined to be ok for healthy men. A Dutch research group did a 6-month study with more than 200 men. The men on testerone supplements developed more muscle mass, lost more fat, better insulin sensitivity but lower levels of good cholesterol. They scored higher on questions related to dealing with stress and self-confidence.

Not only are there benefits to boosting testerone, but the negatives of low testerone are well documented. It puts men at risk for strokes, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Doctors have been prescribing testerone pills, gels and such to counter these effects in large number.

The data is mixed though. A study conducted on rats showed that it could damage kidneys and increase hypertension (high blood pressure)

However, the pills used for the study (testerone undecenoate, or Andriol Testocaps) are not available in the United States.

One should always consult with a doctor before using any testerone supplement. There are a number of "body-building" products available without a prescription. Some claim that it will turn one into an "alpha male", taunting potential customers that "there can only be one". This blog does not cover such products. If you have any experiences using these products feel free to leave a comment to this post.
